Ed Wagoner didn't get the nickname 'Whiplash' by sitting still
at his drum set¸¸¸ and the flashes of bright
white smile you'll glimpse between his flying fringe of hair
are testimony that this musician loves to play.
Ed first became interested in music while watching his
father play guitar when he was just a child. Later, he
decided the drum was the best instrument for him and learned
to read music and play through lessons with Ralph Brown
at Madison High School — ironically, the same guy
who taught his mom to play the drums. Ed's mom was so proud,
she gave him her first sticks.
Ed joined the Madison High School Marching Band as a snare
drum player. His enthusiasm led to his promotion to section
leader. Occasionally, on the stage even now, Ed's marching
band influence does rear its head.
As soon as he graduated, Ed bought his first drum set at
a garage sale. He tore it down and covered it with blue terrycloth
towels — a testimony to his unique character. By the
time he was 19, he had joined his first band ¸¸¸ Vantage.
From there, he went on to keep the beat for 30/.06, Raven,
Storm Cloud, and Candy.
In the early 1980s, Ed joined the boys in Street Foxx for
the first time, getting his first real taste of fame. Ed
then went on to help form Lix. The group traveled to California
to make a go of it, and recorded an album before renaming
themselves Lust. Back from California, Ed played with Calumet
and Razamataz before the boys from Lix regrouped back in
Ohio.
By the time the late 90s rolled around, Ed was back rocking
with Street Foxx once again. He took a little time off to
go into the studio with Lemmon Grass and record an original
CD. He's back with Street Foxx now¸¸¸ a
feeling he describes as 'coming home.'
“I'm the same happy musician I've always been,” Ed
said about his evolution. “I'm very excited about writing
with Street Foxx and putting out a studio album. I'm ready
to get creative. I love the studio¸¸¸ the
sunshine and summertime. I'm happy to be home.”
“How do I feel when I play? On top of the world,” Ed
laughed. “I love to perform. I love music. Sometimes
things are magical. Magic does happen¸¸¸ you
just have to let it.” |
